Classic Yachts
For the first time, the 2010 BMW Auckland Regatta will include a division for Classic Yachts. Classic Yacht racing has become very popular in Auckland and it is a fabulous sight to see heritage Logan, Bailey and other yachts, some of them more than 100 years old, racing hard.
The Classics will race over harbour courses on the Friday and Sunday. On the Saturday, the Classic Yacht Calendar already has the scheduled Duder Cup race. It has been agreed that the Classic Yachts competing in the BMW Auckland Regatta will be able to count their Duder Cup results as part of their BMW results as well.

Newsletter 32010 BMW AUCKLAND REGATTA 26 – 28 FEBRUARY, 2010
It is only a month away. Book your time off work and be ready for New Zealand’s premier keelboat regatta jointly run by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Bucklands Beach Yacht Club.
Top stars are gathering to compete,
America’s Cup ace, Chris Dickson, has confirmed he will be joining Jim Farmer’s Georgia crew in the IRC Division of the BMW Auckland Regatta. Dickson is enjoying being back in competitive racing and recently helmed the Australian yacht, Limit, to an across the board win in IRC, General Handicap and PHRF in the Bay of Islands Sailing Week. He will be back with Georgia and racing hard against some of the glamour big boats in the BMW Auckland Regatta.
BMW Events Team Coming from Munich,
BMW Auckland Regatta is shaping up well for some thrilling racing to determine who will compete for the BMW Sailing Cup. This year’s event also has special significance given that the winning crew will ultimately represent New Zealand at the BMW Sailing Cup World Final which is being held in New Zealand for the first time, and is the climax of the 2010 Auckland Festival of Sailing.
Seven international crews are set to contest the BMW Sailing Cup World Final (March 22 – 25), though they are rumoured to be wary of any Kiwi crew racing in their ‘familiar environment’. Planning for the event is well advanced, with BMW’s Munich-based events team due to arrive in New Zealand this month.
With BMW ORACLE Racing’s America’s Cup challenge in Valencia, Spain coinciding with the world-class BMW amateur sailing events taking place in Auckland, the BMW Yachtsport team are in overdrive delivering world-class sailing events at either ends of the globe.

Australian-based marine apparel brand Musto has put sporting rivalries aside to show its continued commitment to the New Zealand sailing fraternity. The Sydney-based brand has announced plans to produce a unique licensed merchandise collection for the BMW Auckland Regatta after being named the event’s official clothing partner.
The announcement marks the third year in a row Musto has sponsored the Waitemata Harbour-based regatta. As with previous years, Musto has been awarded the exclusive rights to dress BMW Auckland Regatta skippers as well as staff and volunteers. The merchandise range, to be sold both onsite and via the websites of hosts the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club, will feature long-sleeved t-shirts, polos and caps and is expected to go on sale within the next three weeks.
Available in sizes small to XXL for men and 8 to 16 for women, the collection’s colour palette includes black, white and grey. Prices range from $NZ25 to $NZ250 with each garment in the range featuring the distinctive BMW Auckland Regatta branding. Musto will also host a fashion parade showing off new season collections at the mid-way stage of the event.
Musto managing director Duncan Curnow said Musto had always had a strong following in New Zealand and the BMW Auckland Regatta marked a great opportunity for the brand to help support the future of New Zealand sailing.
